When you first get started on your fitness journey, you are excited, motivated and rearing to go to smash out that goal you’ve set for yourself. It’s a great feeling and because that motivation is high you look forward to your workouts and watch your nutrition carefully as you know that every little bit will help you towards getting that body you want or health you want.

We all know that motivation can last anywhere from a few weeks to months but there always comes a time where it drops, and you begin to fall off your workouts with those bad old habits beginning to creep back in again. Before you know it you’ve stopped working towards your goal completely…

But perhaps you didn’t completely fall off the wagon but instead you aren’t feeling that fire that was once there. This is all related to the motivation you have. Motivation is quite often short lived if there isn’t a deep reason behind why you’re doing what you’re doing or if you’ve lost sight of that goal you once wanted to reach.

In other words, what generally happens is that you start to settle and become comfortable. This happens to people who have also reached their goal and don’t have anything else to push for.

Why are you training? Why are you putting in your mouth what you’re putting in? What are you specifically working towards? I can probably guess that if you don’t know the answers to these straight away and clearly you may be lacking a bit of motivation and you know you aren’t going all in.

The people that you see that seem to get fantastic results all had a beginning somewhere. They weren’t born like that. It was hard work with training and diet that got them there. These people had a clear goal they wanted to reach and that’s what keeps their motivation high. They are constantly pushing for the next improvement.

If you feel like you used to have heaps of motivation and was always rearing to go to your workouts but that isn’t quite there anymore, then that can be changed! All you need to do is get specific with what you want to achieve. How much weight do you want to lose? How much muscle do you want to add? How do you want to look? How do you want to feel? What would it feel like once you’ve achieved your fitness goal? How would it change your life? Get very specific with this and get deep with your reasons. E.g being able to keep up with your kids, wanting to be healthy for them and your family. There are all sorts of reasons… Write them down on paper and keep them where you can see it everyday.

I can guarantee as soon you know why you’re doing it and what you want to achieve that motivation will come back like a storm because you’re working towards your true desires and not just anything that someone says you should be working towards! This is what will keep you going. Goals do change and that is normal, it’s all part of the process.

Go out there, set a goal that has meaning for you and let it drive you to success.
